Farad MedPos — Data Retention Policy
Last updated: 05 June 2026 · Aligned with the VAT and Supplementary Duty Act 2012 and NBR record-keeping guidance (Bangladesh)
1. Scope
This policy describes how long the Farad MedPos Android and desktop applications keep the data they store on your device, and how you can delete that data. It complements the Farad MedPos Privacy Policy.
2. Core principle
The App is offline-first and you are the data controller for the records inside it. We do not hold copies of your sales data on our servers, so we cannot retain or delete anything on your behalf — retention is fully under your control.
3. Retention by record type
| Record | Default retention | How to remove |
|---|---|---|
| Products / inventory | Until you delete them | Products screen → swipe / Delete |
| Invoices & line items | Recommended: 5 years for NBR/VAT compliance | Reports / Settings → Clear sales history |
| Daily sales summaries | Mirrors invoices (rebuilt from them) | Rebuilt automatically when invoices change |
| OCR history (label scans) | Until you clear it | Settings → Clear OCR history |
| Exported PDF receipts | Until you delete them from device storage | Files app on Android · Finder/Explorer on desktop |
| App settings (business name, tax rate, printer) | Until you change them or uninstall | Settings screen / Clear app data |
4. Why we recommend keeping invoices for 5 years
Under section 107 of the VAT and Supplementary Duty Act 2012 and accompanying NBR rules, registered businesses are expected to keep tax records for a minimum of five years after the end of the relevant tax period. Even if you are below the VAT threshold today, keeping the records for that long protects you in case of an audit or a customer dispute. The App will not auto-delete invoices.
5. Backups and exports
Because all data lives on your device, the responsibility for backups is yours. We recommend, at minimum:
- Android: keep Android Auto-Backup enabled for the App in Settings → Google → Backup.
- Desktop: copy the local database file from the App's
userDatadirectory to an external drive or cloud folder you control. - Export PDF receipts you may need later via the invoice screen's Share Receipt PDF action.
6. Deleting everything
To wipe all Farad MedPos data from your device:
- Android: Settings → Apps → Farad MedPos → Storage → Clear data, or simply uninstall the app.
- Desktop: quit the app and delete its
userDatadirectory, then uninstall.
Once cleared, data cannot be recovered unless you restored it from a backup you took yourself.
7. Sync Bridge data
If you have enabled the optional POS Sync Bridge on your local network, cart state is held in memory on the bridge and re-broadcast to connected devices. The bridge does not persist anything to disk by default; restarting it clears its state. If you stop using Sync Bridge, just quit the bridge process — no other cleanup is needed.
8. Changes
If the App's retention behaviour changes (for example, adding an auto-purge for OCR history older than 90 days), we will update this page and bump the date above before the change is shipped in a release.
